on my x - la tuilerie ceramic bathroom

"[...] That's why ALL famous designers use it, to go from ordinary to extraordinary, but don't tell anyone that I revealed it to you..."

It was somewhere at the end of 2020, between an unhappy PM press briefing and a day of homeschooling that my boyfriend and I decided to redo our bathroom.

Her condition was terrible and we knew she needed a lot of love since we bought the house 8 years ago.

But it was probably the underlying uncertainty that reigned, mixed with the fact that we were seeing her more and more often, that gave us the pat on the back to start this major project.

How depressing it was...

Everything was demolished, giving way to a completely blank canvas.
And the famous question: “what am I doing? quickly surfaced.

When we start a project, we, the artists/creatives or whatever hat we wear, we start from an emotion to be translated, it's our own language.

More than a style to copy, we ask ourselves the question: how do I want to feel here or what kind of atmosphere do I want to convey.

And me, when I started to put all this in place, I had this insatiable need to have a haven of peace; a place where I could rest my head, rest and rise.

Once the Ideal has been established, it is then time to release our secret language. Not the verlan, nor the Aurebesh, but that of colors, textures and shapes to express this quest for comfort.

Yes, we speak in image and in feeling. It's quite strange, I get it.

I would tell you that to recreate that, natural materials and tones were my favorite choice. Because we know that nature has this unique power to soothe us.

So I used 3 bases:

  1. I knew I wanted to use lime paint from day one. Its old European castle look was love at first sight. This is because it is water-based and colored with natural and organic pigments (limestone mineral extract reduced to powder). This explains its magnificent matte and sober natural texture.

I chose the Pure & original one and the old linen color in the fresco finish to make everything more enveloping. I even ventured to put some on the ceiling. And, in my humble opinion, that makes all the difference.

02. I like things that are of quality, that are prestigious and that will last me. I firmly believe in the long term and this is the very essence of Sur mon x. So when I came across these beautiful 24 x 24 black slate tiles with their exposed strata from La Tuilerie, I knew I had found THE perfect piece.

03. As my idea was to create a sanctuary, to balance the robustness of the dark natural stone, I started looking for more lightness. So, when I discovered the sublime white painted brick imitation tile , I knew immediately that I had a winner. And everything fell into place.

Three hyper-textured natural materials, I couldn't be more fulfilled to create what was to become the basis of my sacred place.

ACCESSORIES

Once the basic elements have been chosen, we come, as with a dress, to put personality with accessories.

According to our personality, we go with something playful, unique, classic, elegant… it's according to what we want to project.

No one will be surprised to find that for my part, I put vintage finds.

Because it adds so much texture to a new room.

And maybe you want to know, what is the famous “texture”??? This term that all designers use, but no one seems to grasp.

Well, to make a room interesting it takes several things, the first of which would be contrasts.

Contrasts are for example:

- Marble versus wood
- Black versus white
- The soft versus the rough
- The worn, the scratched compared to the smooth and new.

on my x vintage

It gives a rich dimension to the space and it is in these details that we recognize a design that rises unlike another that is poorer or boring.

It's also why vintage is BIG, BIG at the moment. It alone adds a patina, a relief, a color, a story that contrasts the rest and elevates it to another level.

That's why ALL famous designers use it, to go from ordinary to extraordinary, but don't tell anyone that I revealed it to you...

Now you know how it's done. So, if you ever have a big renovation project or even just a little corner to redevelop, the key is to choose elements not for their popularity at the moment, but for how they make you feel and to highlight them. compared to others.

With this in hand, you are certain to invest in pure happiness.

“[…] This is the most prominent DIY for Christmas this year. »

You've probably seen it on Instagram, after dried oranges, it's the hottest DIY for Christmas this year. Personally, I was immediately seduced. Why buy new when you can breathe new life into old paper bags with glue and scissors?

As I had everything on hand to execute it and my Christmas decorations were not completely finished, I quietly settled down to do it. Five minutes later, I had the simplest DIY I had done in my life, but surely also one of the most beautiful.

If you do, feel free to share, we'd love to see all your stars!

Tag me @on_my_x, I'll share!

PAPER STAR

MATERIAL

.

- 7-8 brown paper lunch bags
- Glue
- Scissors
- Ribbon (for hanging - optional)

STEPS

1. To start, put a generous line of glue in the bottom of the bag then in the middle, starting from top to bottom. Then glue the next bag on top, and repeat this for the 7 bags.

2. Once all the bags have been glued together, cut out slightly rounded tips.

3. Finally, unfold everything to glue the remaining ends together. Here is! That's it. You can hang a string, a ribbon or, like me, just put it on a mantelpiece or a sideboard!

MARSEILLE SOAP
The reputation of Marseille soap (made with 72% olive oil) is well established, it is probably the most popular of all the soaps in the world. Extra pure and biodegradable, it has been made the old-fashioned way by hand, in a cauldron, for hundreds of years. There are endless recipes on the web for natural cleansers based on this soap, as much for laundry, home, shaving, etc!

Without palm oil, without animal fat, without perfume, without dye. What else do you want?

For the recipe, it is important to use a real Marseille soap, because regular soaps (with added glycerin) will not allow your laundry to remain liquid.

STEPS

1. Boil water in a saucepan.
2. Add grated soap to boiling water, stir well.
3. Once the soap has completely melted, turn off the heat.
4. Off the heat, add the baking soda and the soda crystals.
5. Leave to stand and stir occasionally to loosen foam and prevent mixture from settling.

6. Once the detergent is very cold, remove the excess foam and pour into a jug.

OPTIONAL : Add a few drops of essential oils.

LITTLE TIP: Shake well before each use and enjoy the happiness of a homemade product, made with love! Looking forward to hearing your impressions :)

matcha lemonade

matcha lemonade

What exactly is matcha?

Matcha is a fine powder of excellent green tea, traditionally used for the tea ceremony. It comes from the best quality camellia. Particular care is taken in the cultivation of this tea. A few weeks before harvest, the tea bushes are covered to protect them from direct sunlight.

This slows down the plant's growth, darkens its leaves, and boosts the production of amino acids that sweeten the tea's taste and raise its catechin levels. These young tea leaves (called "tencha") are then dried and ground into a very fine, light green powder: matcha and we love it.

"...in addition to being the most Pinterest of all beverages, the relief it brings to face the changing seasons, its beneficial powers for your health, and its spicy aromas uplifting for the morale will offer you the pinnacle of self-care! »

Phew! The winter temperatures are beginning to be felt more and more. I don't know about you, but the colds don't end here. My little wool is no longer enough to keep me warm and the desire to go back on vacation is omnipresent.

On the other hand, I discovered THE natural product you need to face the cold season, coupled with a generous, and oh so comforting, dose of self-care.

If you haven't heard of golden milk yet, this is THE DRINK of the hour. A fantastic recipe that you can prepare in less than 10 minutes.

Normal, with all its properties, this creamy, latte-like drink I promise you will provide you with the warmth you need on those extremely cold or mild, but humid and uncomfortable winter days.

Where does the golden milk come from?

Golden milk is a traditional Ayurvedic drink made from turmeric root (or ground turmeric), milk, black pepper and oil.

However, most recipes also add other healthy ingredients such as fresh or ground ginger root.

GOLDEN MILK RECIPE
INGREDIENTS

.

- 2 ½ cups of vegetable drink, or milk
- 1 cinnamon stick (or 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
- 2 inches sliced fresh turmeric, or 1 ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 inch sliced fresh ginger, or ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of maple syrup or honey (or more, to taste)

OPTIONAL: A pinch of cardamom and star anise

STEPS

1. Place milk, cinnamon stick, turmeric, ginger, coconut oil and black pepper in a small saucepan.

2. Cook, stirring frequently, until hot but not boiling. *

3. Taste and add your favorite sugar, to taste.

4. If you used turmeric and fresh ginger, pass your preparation through a sieve.

5. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and enjoy!

PS You can make it in larger quantities and keep it for a few days without any problem, in order to reheat it later.

IMPORTANT NOTES

*DO NOT BOIL: This is intentional because, according to this article, long-term cooking of turmeric can lead to a loss of curcumin, an important molecule in turmeric.

PEPPER : Our bodies are unable to absorb curcumin well when we consume it alone. Combining it with black pepper makes organic turmeric available, that is to say, better assimilated by the body thanks to one of its active components, piperine; hence its importance.

OIL : For millennia, in the practice of Ayurveda, golden milk has been made with a little ghee because curcumin has low water solubility. So, for us to benefit from its full potential, turmeric must come into contact with oil or another fatty substance. We use coconut oil because it's more readily available, but if you have ghee, don't hesitate!

Why should turmeric be your BFF ?

The secret of this recipe is mainly due to turmeric, the spice that is the star of Ayurvedic medicine* thanks to its incredible properties. It is because of curcumin, a molecule contained in turmeric, that we owe it its health properties. Here are some properties attributed to it:

  • Anti-inflammatory effect,
  • antioxidant effect,
  • Fight against various infections and strengthen the immune system (thanks to its antibacterial properties),
  • Help maintain glowing skin
  • would improve the intestinal flora,
  • Could have a preventive effect in the fight against the loss of cognitive functions (memory),
  • Would help with digestion.

Turmeric has a nice warm, earthy taste with a bit of citrus bitterness. It tastes very soothing to the throat, especially when mixed with other ingredients like ginger, cinnamon, milk and oil, but has a comforting effect too!

If you want to learn more about its benefits, this article will teach you a lot. However, like most things in life, turmeric should be consumed in moderation. It is therefore recommended not to consume more than one teaspoon of ground turmeric spice per day.

Although called a "superfood", it should also be noted that turmeric is difficult to absorb. However, this thousand-year-old recipe has managed to offset its greatest weaknesses by adding other ingredients (see important notes at the bottom of the recipe).

DECORATION

HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOME
A PEACEFUL & REVITALIZING REFUGE

The importance of building a sanctuary for your mental health.

By: VALÉRIE PASCALE Date: April 15, 2020

Do you ever think about your next vacation?

To how the sound of the sea would soothe you right now,
how the total change of scenery would make you stop thinking about your slightest worries and live completely in the moment?

How do you deserve a break right now and finding yourself in an oasis of calm away from the daily hustle and bustle would seem to settle everything?

Of course, huh?

In our frenetic modern world,
where work and excess values that generate stress, occupy the largest part of our lives,
it is necessary to create a balance, so as not to sink into exhaustion.

As work and the many "things to do" take up more and more space, the first thing we tend to do is to neglect the things that nourish us the most,
to the detriment of those that empty us, thus creating great imbalances that lead more often than not to exhaustion.

I can't teleport you to Barcelona, Provence, or even Sayulita,
(even your park isn't recommended right now anyway, so forget it.)

However, I can do better than this:
help you create a peaceful retreat at home and
to live this experience day after day.

THE 11 RULES FOR
CREATE A PEACEFUL SAFETY

01. DECREASE STIMULUS

Our energy is a precious thing that needs to be recharged.
Each stimulus (surrounding noises, visual distractions, requests, files, actions, tasks to remember, speech, etc.) draws energy from us.

That is why, at the end of the day, in order to be able to rest, the absence of a large number of stimuli, whatever it is, will make the rest more effective.
An environment with neutral colors, natural materials, low contrast and inviting textures will automatically establish a serene atmosphere.

It is therefore to be considered during your large cleanings and each time you consider a new purchase.

02. HAVE A POWER SPOT

Marie Kondo praises it “The benefits of having a personal space, regardless of its size and location, are immeasurable. It's a bit like having a hand warmer in your pocket when it's cold.

In Danish, this little corner is called a “Hyggekrog”. It is the ideal place to read a good novel, the newspaper or listen to beautiful music.

Because having your own space means having time for yourself.

You don't have an entire room to set up your “power spot”? A small space is more than enough, don't worry!

I, for example, have a rocking chair in the living room which is “my place”. It's big enough for me to cross my legs and high enough for me to be comfortable. It is next to the window where I can see the mountains in the distance and there is always a blanket not too far away, then a small table where I can put a newspaper, coffee, knitting or a book in progress.
The important thing is just to be able to retire for 5 minutes or 2 hours if necessary.

Guide to making your home a peaceful refuge where you can recharge your batteries & clear your mind. solution to stress

03. INVEST IN THE KITCHEN

More often than not, the things and pleasures we give up are the ones that feed us the most.
Taking the time to cook is one of them, this creative and almost meditative act is often neglected when time is scarce.

The kitchen is 98% of the time the heart and soul of homes.

It is also the echo of our moods, our health and our well-being.
Investing in it also means ensuring that we pursue the life we aspire to and creating daily well-being rituals.

04. THE BATHROOM DESERVES RESPECT

Having luxurious towels, a good bath treatment, is the price of access to the spa, but it is available on a Tuesday evening at 7:45 p.m. without reservation, glass of rosé included, without having to take the car or do babysit ;)

The bathroom is the most peaceful, personal and calming place in the world; the privileged space for restoration, rejuvenation.
Treat her with the respect she deserves.

05. INVITE NATURE INSIDE

It is often seen in the arts of living where the interior is valued such as Hygge or wabi Sabi .
Integrating natural elements into your home is the equivalent of transposing a soothing energy that you feel during a walk in the forest or a walk on the seaside.

Whether woven baskets, natural fiber rugs, unvarnished wood and natural collections of all kinds: shells, stones, driftwood, pressed leaves and flowers
Or just small bunches of fresh lilacs or budding branches. Decorate the table with a bowl filled with fresh fruit or buy a new plant for the living room. The possibilities are limitless and very inexpensive.

06. LEAVE EMPTY SPACE

One of the most important elements in Scandinavian and wabi-sabi inspired decor is the presence of emptiness. To be able to feel comfortable, it's good to surround yourself with what you love, but you shouldn't overload the space.

Rather than having them all over the house, grouping your decorations or utilitarian objects in strategic places, by creating vignettes, allows the eye to rest and gives more presence and impact to each thing.
Then, in the end, it's really more sophisticated.

07. CHOOSE THE RIGHT LIGHT

Natural light is always preferable to artificial, so during the day we open the curtains and if the view is not attractive, we opt for curtains that let in light.

In return, in the evening when the light begins to fade, seek the soft glow of light garlands, candles, lanterns and reduce the intensity of the lamps.

Especially at bedtime when you start to relax, keep the lights low
will help you fall asleep, because exposure to artificial light when you're trying to sleep isn't just annoying, it suppresses the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone.
Investing in blackout curtains, avoiding light sources like dials, and wearing an eye mask are great tips to help you sleep better and get a restful night's sleep.

08. DON'T NEGLECT DECLUTTERING & ORGANIZATION

It's one thing to clean surfaces; it's another thing to completely declutter your home. Sure, it sounds tedious, but when you've taken the time to go through every closet and drawer to get rid of the personal effects you no longer need and keep the things you really need, but also arrange them so that everything is found more easily, it's like a big breath of fresh air.

NEED ORGANIZATION?

SHOP

09. MAKE CONSCIOUS CHOICES

Creating a quiet home goes beyond aesthetics, it starts above all with the practice of mindfulness.

By setting a goal to have fewer things in total, but more things you actually like, you become more aware of their presence and more inclined to appreciate them.

Obviously, this is a long-term goal. Over time, we gradually abandon items that do not spark (as my friend Marie would say) to take our time choosing what we really want when it comes time to buy something new.
Having just the right cup, THE dream tableware or the coveted little frame is worth all the waiting in the world. It adds an importance or a more sacred aspect to what surrounds us.

Beauty can be a powerful anchor, don't underestimate it.

10. PICK UP SURFACES DAILY

Clutter is a visual distraction, a stimulus that creates extra stress that you really don't need.

Every time your eyes land on a pile of papers, a pile of dirty dishes, or a pile of laundry, a small part of your mind thinks about how to manage those items; the mental load increases.

If you want a calmer experience at home, a good way to start is to make sure to clean all surfaces in your home daily.
When the eye can roam clean, bright surfaces throughout the home, it also becomes easier to relax.

A little 15-20 minutes a day of picking can make all the difference.

11. PRIORITIZE COMFORT AT ALL TIMES

It may seem obvious, but to have a serene home, comfort is at least as important as aesthetics.
Never buy furniture online because it looks good without trying it on.

Because a pillow, sofa, mattress or whatever is not comfortable will not be used.

And that's less comforting naps, less reading, less movie nights, so more stress accumulated in the end.

IN REGARDS TO:

Over the course of my career, I have too often witnessed homes whose structure, operation and interior design were neglected, leading to energy-consuming spaces.

Yet they have the ability to nourish us, increase our well-being and make us flourish despite all that life throws at us.

With my baccalaureate in design and my 20 years of experience, combined with my research and my interest in a healthier lifestyle, I probably have a master's degree in the art of making your environment a place that supports you and these guides are the very essence of creating spaces conducive to calm, beauty and rejuvenation, but it is above all what can make the difference between remaining in exhaustion, exhausted and a life “on its x ".

So don't wait any longer.

THE 11 RULES FOR CREATING A PEACEFUL REFUGE at home

STEPS

6. Once the detergent is very cold, remove the excess foam and pour into a pitcher.

OPTIONAL : Add a few drops of essential oils.

LITTLE TIP: Shake well before each use and enjoy the happiness of a homemade product, made with love! Looking forward to hearing your impressions :)

Rather than having them everywhere in the house, grouping your decorations or useful objects in strategic places, by creating vignettes, allows the eye to rest and gives more presence and impact to each thing.

A little 15-20 minutes a day of picking can make all the difference

IN REGARDS TO:

Over the course of my career, I have too often witnessed homes whose structure, operation and interior design were neglected, leading to energy-consuming spaces.

Yet they have the ability to nourish us, increase our well-being and make us flourish despite all that life throws at us.

With my baccalaureate in design and my 20 years of experience, combined with my research and my interest in a healthier lifestyle, I probably have a master's degree in the art of making your environment a place that supports you and these guides are the very essence of creating spaces conducive to calm, beauty and rejuvenation, but it is above all what can make the difference between remaining in exhaustion, exhausted and a life “on its x »

So don't wait any longer.

Gratitude challenge

An introduction to slow living - Chllenge gratitude: from discouraged to amazed in 30 days

If you ever want to refine your ability to see the beautiful, but don't really know how to go about it, it's super simple.

Here's a little challenge that will help you incorporate one of the best positive habits of your life ;)

Would you like to be more satisfied with your life?

Tsé, going to bed at night while going over the course of your day and feeling that that's it, that's good and that's perfect! It's not always easy, with all the stress, the mental load and the pressure that we are under, we have such a full head. Again, it would be necessary to be able to know how to do it.

You know the brain is capable of extraordinary things, but unsuspected. We could reach them, but sometimes we simply ignore the instructions.

How it works?

Every morning, or evening, take a little 5 minutes for your gratitude journal, by making a simple list of the things you are grateful for.

It is not a question of quantity, but of quality.

It can be things that happened during the day or in your life in general.

From the support and love you receive from loved ones, to the recognition of having something to eat in the fridge.

The goal of this challenge is to start making a habit of seeing how lucky you are every day.

Week 01

So we start today! Not tomorrow, or when it's going to happen. Today! Procrastination, we know full well what it gives, so...

To get started, choose how you want to show your gratitude.

Personally I have a completely separate journal, just for my gratitude lists. I prefer it that way, because I find that the diary, once started, reflects in itself a vibration of all beauty and I can refer to it on cloudy days.

Some people prefer to keep their gratitude journal on their nightstand and take notes before bed, others while sipping their first morning coffee. That is unique to you! The important thing is consistency; always going there at the same time during the day will facilitate the integration of the habit.

Week 02

You will already have seven entries in your journal, so try to take the time to think about each one. to see what this experience brings you so far. That should motivate you to keep going.

You can stick to five minutes of gratitude a day.

There will be days when nothing good comes to mind. In this time, try to turn the situations into positive ones.

For example, maybe you spent 1h15 in traffic and your boss was furious that you were late, but it gave you 75 minutes to think about your file. So one thing happened, everything was settled in less than 5 minutes or else, you finished this project which did not obtain the desired results, but you had the courage to go through with it and dare unveil it.

There is always an advantage to everything. Even to bad. By practicing gratitude, we develop this muscle that sees life on the bright side and we can only be better off.

Week 03

Your gratitude journal is always going to be good, so this week keep brainstorming and adding new things you're grateful for, but also adding pictures and affirmations to go along with your entries. Nothing complex! Just to deepen the experience and put your senses into action even more.

Week 04

Now is the time to put your gratitude into action.

It's nice to be able to feel that satisfaction inside of us, but Demonstrating it to the people around us increases the happiness felt tenfold.

So, as you continue to record your thoughts daily in your gratitude journal, be sure to also write down acts of kindness that could be done to thank those around you.

Maybe your colleague took over to help you, or maybe your sister brought you coffee at work, or your son took the time to empty the dishwasher!

Write a little thank you in your journal about it and don't forget to thank them in person and let them know how much better they make your life!

Teach a trick to the little wild monkey that lives in our head.
Basically, that's the challenge.

We must first tame it and then show it how to behave in our own house.

By directing it, you will begin to become more aware of all the good that is around you and to focus your energy on it. Because we know: what we focus on expands.

The more you see the good, because it's often just a matter of perspective, the more you'll find that feeling of satisfaction.

But, like anyone else, the little monkey has to practice before he can do his trick perfectly. This is why habit and repetition will be your allies.

So, ready to marvel?

LITTLE TIP: Shake well before each use and enjoy the happiness of a homemade product, made with love! Looking forward to hearing your impressions :)

4 Ways to Add the Magical Touch to Your Gift Wrapping - wikiHow

“[...] Because completely absorbed by one's occupation, one forgets the outside world; completely in the “flow”.

Already on December 21, it's crazy, right? Have you finished your gifts?

Here everything is ready, only my favorite part remains: the packaging. I don't know why I always liked it. When I was young, everyone made me wrap their gifts in my family and never that.

I would sit at the dining room table and decorate each one to be special.

Looking back, I find that a beautifully wrapped gift gives more value to what's inside. It's the little something more that means: I took this time especially for you!

But also, it's because secretly, it makes me feel good to tinker like when I was a child. To work with my hands and let myself be completely absorbed by my ideas. It's sweet and I love it!

In this regard, the Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has just made a discovery. Wondering what makes people happy, he noticed that artists, when lost in their creative process, look particularly happy.

Then, the result was always the same: a person in a state of creation felt great moments of happiness and pleasure when she engaged in activities perceived as creative. Because completely absorbed by one's occupation, one forgets the outside world; completely in the “flow”.

Anyway, I thought I might give you my last tips...

1. A REMEMBRANCE ORNAMENT

What you will need: An ornament, ribbon
Duration: 5 minutes

Give two gifts in one by attaching a small ornament as a cabbage, bow or other decoration. It is a festive detail that also serves as a small souvenir that the person can reuse.

All it takes is to tie the ornament to the ribbon, which will then be wrapped around the present.

2. HOMEMADE CABBAGE

For this version, I had the idea of using a miniature version of the Scandinavian paper stars. You can also hang them around the house, or even in the tree.

But personally, that's how I prefer them. In addition, it is sure that the person to whom you offer this present will feel special and touched that you took the time to do this little attention just for her.

PAPER STAR (or cabbage)

MATERIAL

.

- Tissue paper or other kind of paper
- Twine
- Stick glue

STEPS

1. Take two tissue papers (or other) that you will cut into squares.

2. Fold each of the accordion pieces about 1//2'' or 3/4'' wide.

3. Once the accordion is complete, fold each of the pieces in half so that the two ends meet.

4. Cut the end in the shape of a triangle and make a notch in the shape of a triangle on the side, taking care to put the two pieces on top of the other.

5. Take a piece of string and tie the two pieces together, taking care to leave some string sticking out to attach the cabbage to the box.

6. With a glue stick, stick the four sides together, one at a time.

7. Install your star :)

3. Two gifts in one

What you will need: Tea towel, string or ribbon
Duration: 5 minutes

Throughout the year, I stock up on nice dish towels and when I bring a bottle of wine as a hostess gift, I wrap it in a nice tea towel; two gifts in one!

We can even wrap our gifts i
