VINTAGE FRAME - Map Seller of Paris, Place de la Bastille

"Home is a feeling"

Because they tell a story and emanate a sense that you can make your own, images are a key element when trying to give your home a unique look that turns heads.

And they allow you to express your unique personality, tastes, and dreams.

Designers have understood this well, adopting it to create universes where you will be instantly transported.

ABOUT THE MAP SELLERS:

In the 19th century, the Place de la Bastille in Paris was a central hub for map sellers, who sold city maps and plans to passersby and visitors. At that time, the square was bustling with the comings and goings of people, merchants, and artists. The map sellers, often referred to as "marchands de plans," were renowned for their ability to attract attention with lively demonstrations of their products.

One of the most famous sellers was a man named Jacques Bouvier, known for his detailed maps and captivating stories about the history of Paris. Bouvier had a reputation as an exceptional storyteller, able to turn the simple sale of maps into a theatrical performance. For example, he could tell fascinating stories about the places depicted on his maps, captivating customers with tales of historical events and Parisian legends.

The maps he sold were often adorned with intricate drawings depicting city scenes, historic buildings, and famous landmarks, catching the eye of both tourists and Parisians. His vivid descriptions and dramatic flair made every purchase a memorable experience. The success of Bouvier and other map sellers of the time illustrates how vendors could transform utilitarian objects into valuable collectibles, enriching the experience of the city's visitors.
