When organization & joy rhyme with spring cleaning
The Marie Kondo method explained
The Mary Method
Kondo explained
To keep only what gives us joy.
By: VALERIE ANNE WHITE Date: May 28, 2019
“Nature is slowly reborn and like every year, it seems that I am getting in tune with it. Emerging in me this need for renewal, purification. »
Although I'm not a follower the rest of the year, at this time, it 's stronger than me: the Konmari method calls me. Seriously, I love Mari Kondo. There is something witty about her philosophy of storage and very similar to ours. She has a great respect for objects and she explains perfectly the feeling of gratitude that we should all devote to our house.
Among other things, she suggests sorting things out and keeping only what sparks joy in us. She seeks, in this way, to make our home a light and happy space. If you too are into this cleaning vibe, here are the main points of his decluttering method to start with.
THE METHOD: HOW / IN WHAT ORDER?
STEP 1
Go piece by piece and commit to putting everything away.
2ND STEP
Imagine your lifestyle and your ideal home in order to prevent relapses.
STEP #3
Hold each of the objects with both hands and ask yourself:
- Does the object bring me joy?
- Is the object useful?
- Does the object work?
- Does the item have a specific place to be stored?
STEP #4
Organize by category, not by room. Example: put all your clothes in one place. Go in the following order: clothes, books, papers, komono; either small items such as kitchen items, toys, electronic items, DVDs, decorative objects, etc. Finally, sentimental items.
STEP #5
Complete the full sorting before moving on to the next category. Each time you finish sorting a category of objects,
STEP #6
Discard or recycle paper and packaging. Properly dispose of non-functional objects (in sorting centers) and quickly get rid of non- preserved objects in a donation center.
HOW TO STORE?
- Fold clothes like origami, don't hang them.
- Clothes should be folded and placed upright in the drawers rather than lying flat.
- Divide storage by category into boxes or baskets that can create
compartments.
- Designate a “home” for everything you keep, to avoid clutter at
new.
