Learn to manage stress

“[...] Which implies that I haven't had the chance to adequately build defense mechanisms in the face of stress. I am not the only one; one in five young people in Quebec experience anxiety. But you should know that it is also one of the most treatable mental health disorders! »

Anxiety is a state that we can learn to manage. I know it, because I have suffered from it since the beginning of my adult life.

I had a happy childhood without any trauma, a healthy living environment, loving parents, but I was an overprotected and very sensitive child. Which implies, among other things, that I haven't had the chance to adequately build defense mechanisms in the face of stress. I am not the only one; 1 out of 5 young people in Quebec would experience anxiety. If the figure is impressive, you should know that it is also one of the mental health disorders that can best be treated!

That being said, I have never had recourse to medication or therapy. Maybe I should have, it would have saved me unnecessary suffering and a lot of sleepless nights worrying about stories that only exist in my head. Regardless, my approach was to read thousands of personal development books! And to do a lot of work on myself.

In the beginning, I avoided doing anything that could put me under significant stress . But, as Sonia Lupien, neuroscientist and director of the Center for Studies on Human Stress in Montreal, says: "Avoidance is the fuel you put in the anxiety car." After a while, I wanted to live a more fulfilling life, I no longer wanted to be mortgaged by this evil that was gnawing at me.

Slow life was therefore revealing for me, and that's why I promote it so much :). This lifestyle change allowed me to adopt tips and strategies for better stress management, then made me realize the importance of taking care of myself (now that I have to take care of myself! !!)

I am currently working on creating concrete tools that you can use in your everyday life to reduce your sources of stress and increase your well-being. They are the ones that I use every day and that make my life much more peaceful than it has ever been. It's coming, not as fast as I would like, but it will be this fall!!!

In the meantime, I can tell you that since the solution to anxiety lies in the ability to manage your stress so that it does not completely dominate your life, it is essential to take time each day to relax and tune in short breaks and/or “me time”.

I know you already know it's good. But for a long time, I only did it when needed (say within 2 weeks of a tougher time), but my frequent relapses made me realize that prevention is the sweetest treat to curb the buildup.

It can be as ordinary as going for a walk at lunchtime, taking advantage of the afternoon break to read a magazine, your favorite blog, color, do crosswords, knit, drink a hot and comforting tea or even plan an activity that makes us feel good and that we cherish in the evening or on weekends.

Only you know what it is. Listing the 10 things that make you the happiest and trying to include as many of them as possible in your daily routine, without pressure, is an exercise that may seem insignificant, but which allows you to experience much more joy in a day. , or to be agitated, rushed , tormented...

Focusing on what makes me feel good works strangely prolifically. And these days, my coziness crush is pumpkin spic and latte. I tried @fiveofdecember 's recipe on Instagram and every afternoon has been a balm of sweetness since.

I share it with you HERE while waiting for my other tools to be finally ready!

MARSEILLE SOAP
The reputation of Marseille soap (made with 72% olive oil) is well established, it is probably the most popular of all the soaps in the world. Extra pure and biodegradable, it has been made the old-fashioned way by hand, in a cauldron, for hundreds of years. There are endless recipes on the web for natural cleansers based on this soap, as much for laundry, home, shaving, etc!

Without palm oil, without animal fat, without perfume, without dye. What else do you want?

For the recipe, it is important to use a real Marseille soap, because regular soaps (with added glycerin) will not allow your laundry to remain liquid.

STEPS

1. Boil water in a saucepan.
2. Add grated soap to boiling water, stir well.
3. Once the soap has completely melted, turn off the heat.
4. Off the heat, add the baking soda and the soda crystals.
5. Leave to stand and stir occasionally to loosen foam and prevent mixture from settling.
6. Once the detergent is very cold, remove the excess foam and pour into a jug.

OPTIONAL : Add a few drops of essential oils.

LITTLE TIP: Shake well before each use and enjoy the happiness of a homemade product, made with love! Looking forward to hearing your impressions :)

“The secret to happiness is to take a genuine interest in all the details of daily life. »
