Hello! I'm glad you give me a moment of your day. A little break can only invigorate you! So many of you took the test and recognized yourselves in my last email “BEFORE STRESS made you sick”
“Speaking of stress, in my early twenties, like most young people, I needed to go on an adventure and discover the world in order to discover myself, in a way. My younger sister and I decided to leave for Spain. I had traveled before, but never in a situation where I was in control of the journey. »
A few days before we left, I started to panic. What had come over me? Two girls, alone, vulnerable… What if we get lost, are there public telephones in this country? What if we got kidnapped, attacked..., thoughts started racing in my head.
In the middle of the night, I got up on tiptoe to go do a search on Google. The light dimmed, in my dressing gown, I stared at the screen as if it were going to save me. First I typed travel Spain, then, travel Spain problem .
Suddenly, I closed those windows and decided to go to Google Map instead. I visited the country by walking there from the airport to the station, passing by the bus stops and the museums where we had to go. I noticed the names of boulevards and vast parks and therefore paid my attention to details that I could spot.
And suddenly, I felt better. Soothed. But how could it be? I was smiling and looking forward as I hadn't slept for 2 nights and, 30 minutes earlier, I had almost called my sister in the middle of the night, in a panic, to tell her that I would not be able to go there.
What I understood much later, by reading this famous book on stress by Sonia Lupien which I spoke to you about in the last article, is that the impression of having control over a situation is the factor most importantly, not so much the control itself. And this anecdote came back to me.
It is the lack of control over a situation that creates the state of panic. As studies show that since our brain does not really make the distinction between the two, it is by increasing the impression of having control that the perception of threat decreases and therefore, the symptoms of stress.
“And when I realized that, I decided to find ways to reassure my brain. If just knowing where he's going makes him feel zen, well, I'll tell him. This is how I started to regain control over my life which was a chaos. »
But, I'm not going to lie to you: I decided to organize myself a bit reluctantly, because I'm more of a spontaneous and creative type. I felt like by managing and knowing in advance what was going to happen, I was going to turn off something inside of me.
Later I realized that was a false belief and that a clear and focused mind is much more creative. But, instantly, I clung to the feeling of great peace I had felt that night. And that's what I wanted to find at all costs in the state I was in.
MY TURN
So I started to organize and detail my days, my daily life, and everything that created pressure or stressed me, in order to tell my brain that I had a plan and that no threat could harm me.
To make the pleasant useful, I decided to equip myself with beautiful tools to make this moment a ritual, and take advantage of it to transform what seemed to me beforehand a chore into a moment for me. Of course, I could do all that on my cell phone or on a sheet of paper, but the poetry that emanates from it becomes another gentle balm and helps me to have a certain regularity and to enjoy doing these exercises.
SIMPLE RITUALS WITH AMAZING POWERS
MORNING (5-10 MINUTES):
Before starting anything every morning, I take a comfortable moment, hot coffee with milk, favorite pencil and notepad in hand to think about my goals for the week or month. By asking myself what I have to accomplish in the long term, I can therefore divide among the days. So I give myself a maximum of 3 tasks to do per day (organization experts agree that the most realistic would be 3 to 5 priorities per day). I stick with that.
Before, I could start thinking on a loop about the deadline or how I would manage to do EVERYTHING I had to do, in the middle of a movie at the cinema or during a night out at a restaurant, or even in the park with my children, and not really be present anymore.
Because to survive, the brain deals with threats first. But just with that, as my strategy is pre-established, it doesn't happen to me anymore. Like a clearing after a downpour, I can be completely in the present moment and enjoy it.
And in addition, it allows me not to start something that is not necessary and to become anxious because I lack time. Everything flows perfectly. Some also do it the night before because it helps to visualize the next day, frees the memory (already busy) and allows you to sleep better.
DURING THE DAY AND (SOMETIMES) AT NIGHT
(1-3 MINUTES):
I also have a small notebook where I write everything that comes to mind. It's not a to-do list , but rather a kind of drawer that empties my brain. A mental discharge.
Instead of letting all my plan ideas swirl around in my head, I put them away. And I can consult them whenever I want. It saves me from forgetting to pay my taxes or saving good ideas that pop up out of the blue. Just stopping to think about not forgetting and knowing that it's all there creates space in my head! real prozac ;)
EVENING (15 TO 30 MINUTES):
Most evenings, I take time to settle down. That's when everything that didn't come out during the day resurfaces. We are talking here about greater stresses, such as when someone is coveting the same newly posted position as you, or when your child has bad behavior at school, or when your income is unstable because you are self-employed. ...
So I take my notebook and:
1. I write down the elements that run through my head and which, I know that if I don't listen to them, will wake me up at 3:00 in the morning.
2. From there I deconstruct them, one by one, analyzing and defining the source of stress according to the characteristics of CINE: control, unpredictability, novelty, threatened ego (remember your test).
3. Once found, I make backup plans to regain control over the situation such as : What can I do to make it less threatening?
A) inform me?
B) talk about it?
C) avoid?
D) create alliances?
E) predict?
F) …
Most of the plans made will probably never be put into practice, but just having them on hand is like having a Swiss army knife when you walk in the forest. You'll probably never use it, but it's reassuring and you can enjoy it better. In other words, your brain feels less threatened and you'll produce fewer stress hormones.
With time and practice, it will become automatic. A fabulous handy tool for dealing with any situation.
So many of you took the test and recognized yourselves in my last post:
“ THE ULTIMATE EXERCISE TO DO TO MANAGE YOUR STRESS ” that made me want to share something that has long escaped me.
“In another era, I created the sets for the various rooms in a renowned furniture store. I chose the bedding, the color of the walls, the accessories and the furniture. Picture frames, I've hung hundreds and hundreds of them in my life. And for some time now, I have seen beautiful gallery walls on several of my favorite Instagram accounts. »
It also makes me want to do it again! But since I don't have big walls at home and I no longer work in a store, I thought I would satisfy this creative impulse that spring brings back to life… by giving you my best tips and my inspirations!
Making a gallery wall worthy of a magazine is a complex art and some will not risk it for lack of confidence, but with these little tricks there is no reason to be afraid.
In my early twenties, like most young people, I needed to go on an adventure and discover the world in order to discover myself, in a way. My younger sister and I decided to leave for Spain. I had traveled before, but never in a situation where I was in control of the journey.

CHOOSE THE OBJECTS TO HANG
As it is eclectic, we can put everything that speaks to us or that touches our heart: painting, illustration, photos, portrait, vintage frame of different sizes. What I like is to mix in a distinctive object: it can be a mirror, a clock or a beautiful wall candle holder. This addition helps break up the rigid rhythm of rectangular shapes.
TIP FOR A HARMONIOUS RESULT
You can put whatever you want, but there are rules to follow to create visual harmony. The trick is to create links by choosing similar colors, materials or textures. For example, here, it seems heterogeneous, but the gold is found in two of the frames, then the black of some paintings is also found in the frames of others and the silver of the mirror in the left frame. Nothing is left to chance!!!
And suddenly, I felt better. Soothed. But how could it be? I was smiling and looking forward as I hadn't slept for 2 nights and, 30 minutes earlier, I had almost called my sister in the middle of the night, in a panic, to tell her that I would not be able to go there.

HOW TO PROCEED
Start by cutting out the shapes of your frames and objects from kraft paper, newspaper or cardboard. Then, lay them out on the ground to do tests by choosing a centerpiece (often the largest) and embroidering around it. For example, here the centerpiece is the frame with trees. In the visual sequence, we first look at her. The eye will continue to read the whole afterwards. This piece is therefore given a central location.

AT WHAT HEIGHT SHOULD I POSITION MY FRAMES?
The middle of your frame or your composition must reach your eye level, approximately 5'.
WHAT SHOULD I HANG MY FRAMES WITH ?
I have hung over 1000 frames in my life and only one has fallen off.. oops, yes, but that was because I had hung so many frames often in the same place that there was nothing solid left ! But what I mean is that it is not necessary to put butterfly screws or dowels that make holes as big as dollars. A simple frame hook is enough or a good old nail driven at 45 degrees if the frame is small.
And if your boyfriend freaks out because you're going to MAKE HOLES IN THE WALL, there's always that.
HOW TO PROCESS A SET OF FRAMES?
In the end, it must form an entity as if it became a single frame. Generally, the space between each piece should be a maximum of 2 to 3''.
There may be gaps, I advise to leave only one at most 2 and the gap should not exceed 10''.

OPTION 2:
If you want to do a complete wall, you have to treat it as a complete work; as if it were a large painting. It doesn't have to be straight, but you will have to draw an imaginary rectangle on your wall in which you will work. Then, the chosen pieces should be aesthetically similar in terms of colors, materials and finishes.
With these tricks, you can't go wrong, but if you like to dare, know that the rules are also made to be broken!
CONTROL OR CONTROL PRINT = LESS THREAT
WEEKENDS (15 TO 30 MINUTES):
Sunday, I like it to be a day when there's nothing on the schedule, but I still take a little time to plan the week ahead. It gives me peace of mind knowing that everything is going to be fine. So I plan meals, outings, appointments, and proper washing to keep everything flowing.
So that the same day there won't be a bacon crisis because I have to pick up supper at 5:30 on my way back from daycare. So that I don't have to tell my children: hurry up, hurry up..., because I haven't organized myself!
And just knowing that everything is going to be OK makes me love the time I take to do it.
“I'm not going to lie to you, it's true that the adaptation was difficult. Because it was not a habit. But, most of the effort remains in the decision to simply take action. »
Now, faced with a moment of procrastination, I remember moments of panic, ill-being and distress. To remind myself of where I am going and what I have managed to achieve. By taking time, I have created space in my head. I have regained control over the chaos. But Above all, despite everything I have to do, I don't feel constant pressure anymore. I don't do less. I just do it better. To be able to be well and to enjoy life at all times. And that is exactly that, the art of slow living.

(Because, yes, I also studied art history and believe me, composition is the key to the greatest masterpieces 👩🏻🎨 Nothing is left to chance! )
Over the past few weeks, I've tried to compile all my most effective tools so that you, too, can put in place a strategy to regain control. Nothing complicated, just sweet!
This collection is made for all overwhelmed and anxious people who want to regain control of their life, prioritize their well-being and really get all the benefits of slow living . If today you no longer want to live under constant pressure, and you don't know how to manage stress on a daily basis.
You can take a look HERE!
There are objects, each one more magnificent than the other, but also tools that I use and that have helped me to live peacefully, despite the anxiety. And then, for those who have difficulty managing the mental load, there is a planner who, in addition to helping you, is also one of the most powerful principles of slow and transformative there is.
As slow motion is a journey, these tools are perfect for starting your smooth transition to this way of life and, slowly, being more and more "on your x".
